What a beautiful time of year! The cold fronts are gone, the warm weather is here, and the flowers are blooming. For me, there is nothing more relaxing then spending a couple of hours in the garden, tending to my flower beds, and do enjoying some light landscaping to create the perfect outdoor oasis.
I will confess, though, sometimes it is even more fun to rip things out and start from scratch...especially when things just don't flow right in your yard. Before you begin any landscaping project it is always good to start with a sketch to get an idea of what will work, what you would like where, and how you can best utilize your space. By having a clear idea of what plants and trees you want in your yard, you will not only save yourself money but time and frustration.
As you look for ways to landscape without breaking the bank, try to find alternative resources for bargains that may look just as good as the original but at half the cost. Arboretums and botanical centers are excellent places to check out because they hold plant sales often and might have some other ideas for you to incorporate in your garden. For other deals, check with your city to see if they offer free mulch/compost or maybe they have some bricks and stones from construction or demolition sites they are looking to throw out. You never know what kind of awesome deals you will find.
